Houston - X38

In Feb 2001 I took a tour at JSC and was able to visit the hanger where the X38 is being developed. The X38 will be the lifeboat for the ISS in the event of a major failure on the station. At present the ISS uses a Soyuz vehicle as its lifeboat - this limits the active crew to three people.

This shows a mockup of the finished vehicle which was used for drop tests from an aircraft to test the aerodynamics.
Here is the real vehicle under construction. Hopefully my next image of this will be when attached to the ISS!
